Creation of the "Empty Suit"

Today I resin-printed a version of the "empty suit". This model was originally created as a 2-dimensional image through

the use of AI platform "Midjourney". Midjourney allows you to write text-based prompts to generate images. It took many alterations of the prompt, and tweaking of the details within the image, but I finally landed on an image that came close to matching what I had in mind. I then took this image into another AI software called "Meshy" to translate a

digital 3D model from the 2D image. I was quite shocked with the interpretation, especially on the back side. This 3D model still needed some work, as it had a glitched-out 6th finger on one hand, and missing a finger on the other. Also the clothing wrinkles were not very believable, and the crevices that depict where the suit coat ends and the pants begin were vague. So, I then took this model into Zbrush and manually altered it to refine these issues. I added the book in his hand in Zbrush also. The original model had him awkwardly waving.

I chose to print this model hollow with an Ultra-clear resin, because I hope to pour in a liquid that will create a mirroring effect inside. My hope is make the interior surface of this man highly reflective of it's environment.

The neon image is from the UV curing station. The print is made of a UV sensitive resin. The final cure require spinning around in this machine while it gets blasted with some dangerously, blinding light.

The creative journey behind “The Empty Suit” offers a unique lens on how structure and flexibility can co-exist in artistic processes. It’s fascinating to see how each phase, from ideation to execution, reflects the core principles of planning, resource use, and timeline adherence. This reminds me of how detailed storytelling is often used in project management case studies to highlight success factors and challenges. Great post blending art and disciplined execution beautifully.
